COMPETITIVE EVENTS

Involvement in FCCLA's Competitive Events programs offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life necessary in families, communities, and workplaces. Members can demonstrate family and consumer sciences skills, career skills, and interpersonal skills through competitive events.

​​Annual Competition Limits: Members are permitted to participate in one STAR Event and one Idaho Event each year on the state level.

  • Exception: Students may also compete in one Online STAR Event or Parliamentary Procedure.

STAR Event Qualification:

  1. District Level (State Qualification): All competitors who receive a minimum score of 60 points will qualify to compete at the State competition. (NEW THIS YEAR)

    • Exception:  ONLY the top two qualifiers in Baking and Pastry and Culinary Arts will qualify for the state competition.  If any district fails to provide two qualifiers, the vacant spots will be filled by the next highest-scoring competitors statewide.

  2. State Level (National Qualification):

    • Top Two Finishers: The top two finishers in most STAR events are eligible to compete at the national level.

    • Top Three Finishers: The top three finishers in the following events are eligible for National competition: Baking and Pastry, Culinary Arts, Career Investigation, Focus on the Children, Job Interview, Leadership, Say Yes to FCS Education, Sustainability Challenge, and Teach or Train.

Idaho Events: Idaho Events are only offered at the state level. Guidelines for these events are posted below.

 

Resources: STAR Event competition guidelines are available on the national website in the chapter portal under: Resources >> Competitive Events >> 2025-26 STAR Events. The 2025-26 recipes for Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry are posted below.

NEW THIS YEAR:  Confirmation of watching the STAR Event Video by advisers and completion of the Online Orientation Form by students is NO longer required and does not count for point(s)on the STAR Events Point Summary Form rubrics. Participants are still encouraged to watch the Competitive Events Orientation video prior to attending SLC.

 

ONLINE PROJECT SUMMARY FORM:  Completion of the Online Project Summary form is still required and can be found on the STUDENTS national portal under the Surveys & Applications tab.​​​​​​​​​​​​​
